Braces are not just for kids anymore. More adults are opting for Invisalign®, the clear alternative to braces®, than ever before. Most children get their teeth straightened because they (or their parents) want a beautiful smile. Adults, however, often have dental conditions that can be corrected through the use of braces.
Why would an adult consider getting braces?
One of the major reasons that adults get “braces” is to correct crowded teeth . Crooked teeth are harder to clean and often lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and eventual tooth loss. Orthodontic treatment can greatly reduce inflammation and periodontal (gum) disease. Studies have shown that the bacteria living in the gums around crowded teeth are much more toxic than the normal bacteria found in the mouth.
Can Gum disease be bad for my health?
Yes! In addition to causing bad breath, gum disease and other oral infections can lead to more serious ailments such as heart disease, stroke, pneumonia and diabetes.
What are Invisalign Aligners?
Invisalign treatment takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place.
Why should I choose Invisalign aligners over conventional braces?
Since Invisalign trays are “invisible”, there are no wires or brackets to cut or irritate your lips and cheeks. It is easy to keep your teeth and gums clean because the trays can be removed for brushing and flossing. There are no food restrictions and you can eat what you want! The trays can be removed for photos too.
Generally, there are less dentist visits and less time per visit. Since teeth are moved in small increments, there is less discomfort than with conventional braces.
What kinds of orthodontic problems can Invisalign aligners correct?
Invisalign treatment can correct tooth crowding or spacing, overbites or under-bites. Not everyone is a candidate, though. Some people with severe bite issues may be better treated with conventional braces. Invisalign aligners are not good for young children who do not have all their permanent teeth and who would not be compliant with wearing the trays 20-22 hours per day.
Is Invisalign treatment affordable?
Invisalign aligner system is comparable in price to regular braces.. Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment just as they would other orthodontic treatments like metal braces.
Did you know you can apply your Flexible Spending Account toward Invisalign treatment? You can set up to $2,500 of your pretax dollars aside through your FSA and use those funds to help cover the cost of Invisalign treatment.
Flexible and affordable monthly payment plans are available as well.
