Day and Night TMJ Relief with TMJ NextGeneration

Have you ever found yourself grinding or clenching your teeth while driving to work, at the office, or throughout your day?  A custom night guard may do the trick at night, but what about daily stresses?  An innovative alternative to a custom made guard is the TMJ NextGeneration device.  It is the first of its kind to provide day and night relief, without interfering with eating and talking, and is hardly visible.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMJD, is a group of painful conditions that affect the jaw joint and surrounding muscles and nerves. Although TMJ Disorder is not life threatening, it can be detrimental to quality of life since the symptoms can become chronic and difficult to manage. People with TMJ disorders may exhibit a variety of symptoms including:

  • Jaw joint soreness
  • Radiating pain in the face, jaw or neck
  • Jaw muscle pain or stiffness
  • Aching pain in and around ears
  • Difficulty chewing or discomfort while chewing
  • Limited movement or locking jaw
  • Painful jaw clicking, popping or grinding when opening or closing the mouth
  • Headaches or Migraines
  • A change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together

What is TMJ NextGeneration?

The TMJ NextGeneration device is a pair of custom-made inserts, with one device inserted in each of the ear canals, to reduce pain associated with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD). The devices have a central hollow passageway so there is no interference with hearing. The inserts conform to the shape of the ear canal when the jaw is in an open position making the discreet devices not only effective, but comfortable to wear.

How does TMJ NextGeneration work?

When you grind your teeth, your ear canals naturally become smaller. When you grind while wearing TMJ NextGeneration, the custom-made ear inserts maintain the volume of your ear canal and allow the jaw to stay in its relaxed, open position. The ear insert supports the temporomandibular joint and associated secondary musculature to reduce strain in the TMJ area and the device also provides a “cognitive awareness” to the wearer regarding clenching and grinding habits (e.g. jaw clenching) that contribute to TMJ pain.

Can the TMJ NextGeneration device be worn 24/7?

Yes, they can be worn up to 24 hours a day. The devices can be worn throughout all daily activities. However, it is not recommended to wear the device while showering, bathing, swimming, or participating in contact sports.

What has been the patient response?

Patient global satisfaction in the pivotal clinical trial was extremely high, with 100% of subjects in the TMJ NextGeneration™ device group indicating excellent (71%) or good (29%) overall satisfaction with the device.
